South of Temperance

Anyone know when this place is opening? I had read that it was slated to open June 7th, though passing by today... it certainly wasn't open yet.

Last I heard it was scheduled to open this Monday (June 14th). I do know some friends that work in the financial district have been invited to various corporate events there, so I'd imagine even if they were delayed they would have to be getting pretty close.

Where exactly is this place? I walked by the general area twice recently and did not see it. Is it on Adelaide? I left Mercatto on Bay St last week, walked along Temperance and south on Sheppard (that itty bitty st between Adelaide and Richmond) and then west on Adelaide towards York. Still stumped where it will be?

Believe it is on Adelaide between Yonge and Bay, right across from the Scotia building. You would have needed to walk a little bit east on Adelaide after leaving Mercatto.

It seems they have their outdoor patio sort of alongside the parkade wall... indeed west of Ninki as AJMC791 has stated. Opening soon sign was still posted.

Just heard from the owner that they're doing training/run-throughs right now but that it will be open for business as usual on Monday the 28th.

Stumbled across this place last week, and it was open and doing booming business on a very nice-looking patio opening onto the square next to the new Bay Adelaide tower. Has anyone been yet? Intrigued at the inclusion of fish tacos on the lunch menu.

I went with my husband for lunch last week. The place was packed with Bay Street folks, many of whom were watching the soccer game while having lunch. We were seated promptly but had to sit just inside as the patio was full. It's a very nice space - modern, airy and open. We ordered the fish tacos to share as a starter. They were presented as three small tacos in flour tortillas. I can't speak for authenticity but they were very tasty (my husband went back a couple of days later and got them again as a snack). For our mains, I got the salad with chicken and feta and my husband had a sandwich of some sort. Unfortunately, my salad was kind of bland. It had grilled chicken breast, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cucumber and feta. It was like a cross between a Greek salad and cobb salad but I wish they had just chosen one or the other. However, my husband really enjoyed his sandwich.

Our server was very apologetic about the slow service because the kitchen was so busy but to be honest, it didn't really seem much slower than anywhere else I've been lately. I appreciate that they were aware of time constraints and kept us informed.

Thanks for the detailed review... sounds promising. Now I have to check out those fish tacos for sure...

I went with a group from work last Tuesday evening. We ordered a number of appetizers to share and then I got a burger for dinner.
Appetizers that were great were calamari & quesdilla. The ones that were just "ok" were short rib poutine and mini sliders.
My burger was not great at all, had a weird spicy taste to the meat. Maybe it was just me.
Service was slow but our server did her best and the place was RAMMED. The thing i detested was the music was blaring and I mean "nightclub loud" at 5:30pm so much so that I had to shout to the person beside me and there was no opportunity to talk to the people across the table from me. For this reason, likely not to return soon.

Someone at our table had fish tacos and loved them and the person beside me ordered salmon boulibase(sp) and said it was fantastic.

I didn't particularly enjoy the fish tacos which I felt were a mishmash of flavours without anything standing out. I did, however, enjoy the ceviche very much. Fresh, although not as tangy as I'd like.

Headed back soon to enjoy one of the only patios in the core with some sunlight ... perhaps to try the bouillabaisse!

A group of 6 of us were in there last Friday afternoon around 3 for cocktails, 3 of the women shared a couple of pitchers of sangria (red) that they said was outstanding, the rest of us had pints. Odd though that on a Friday afternoon they ran out of Creemore. They had Sapporo, Heineken, Creemore and a few regular brands on tap as well as a few specialty import beers in the bottle that they were pushing at the patio bars. Be prepared to pay Bay Street prices, $7.75 for a pint of Sapporo. Great location and patio.

Any idea if they offer anything besides beer/wine/sangria?

We did see plenty of mixed drinks, scotch (presumed), Caesars etc. being served, just didn't have any ourselves.

They offer a number of wines by the glass and cocktails. Nothing blended, but they do a margarita on ice.

You're welcome! Just a word of advice - get there early or prepare to line up! I left last time around 4 p.m on a Thursday and the space was already about 1/2 full; and incrediblya line-up had formed!!

Has anyone dined at South of Temperence lately?

Right now, I'm thinking about trying the fish tacos, the ceviche and/or the calamari. Besides the quesadilla, what other dishes would you recommend?

Has anyone liked the burger or sliders? I read the one reply above where the poster mentioned he/she didn't like the burger.

Thanks for any of your comments!

Tried the beef short rib poutine a few weeks back, didn't really like it. Soggy. I much prefer the duck confit poutine at Duggans (for something different).
