Shake Shack in Long Branch !?!

bgut1 Jun 10, 2010 02:28 PM

The NY Post is reporting that the couple responsible for bringing us the Bungalow Hotel in Long Branch, Bob & Cortney Novogratz, are designing a second boutique hotel called Cabana which will house the first NJ Shake Shack. Although the article doesn't identify the location of the new hotel, it might be safe to assume that it will also be located in Long Branch due to the continued construction at Pier Village. This would be amazing if true. My only concern however is for traffic as it is currently unbearable on weekends. I can't even imagine what it will look like after Shake Shack opens.

This would be awesome. I think Shake Shack has one of the best if not best burgers I've ever had. It's certainly the best "fast food" burger I've ever had. In my opinion their burgers blows Five Guys out of the water for example. If I lived in the city I'd probably be 100 lbs heavier just from going there and thankfully Long Branch is far enough away to not want to drive to every day.

What makes you think it could be Long Branch? Seems just as likely it could be Atlantic City, or Wildwood, or Seaside, or Ocean City or...

After all, the main issue is the construction of a new Hotel, and the available land to do so would be an issue around Pier Village.

Mark - Admittedly, it is just a hunch however there are only a limited number of areas on the shore that have both the available property and demographics to support such a hotel and food operation. I would therefore scratch off Wildwood and Seaside from your list. In my mind LB just fits (otherwise its just wishful thinking).

Mark - Just did a little homework and must admit that I am even more confident about my prediction.

Item #1 - Wikipedia: "Pier Village Phase III Applied Development Company is seeking approvals from the City for a third and final phase at Pier Village that will consist of a 100-room hotel, 200 rental residences, 75 condominium homes, 20,000 square feet (1,900 m2) of retail space and a new oceanfront public park."

Item #2 - Sleeper Magazine 11/1/09: "As well as filming their TV series, Robert and Cortney Novogratz are currently working on a larger hotel in Long Branch, and another, located in Mexico."

          What do you think?

One can only hope, especially since BOOM closed (At least it was not replaced by another Italian or Chinese joint). Sounds like the possibility of a SS in Long Branch will still be a long way off as it will require the construction of even more of the architectural abortions they refer to as condos and rentals...

hcentro - I can't imagine how bad this place will be for my diet. Maybe a burger everytime I do a boardwalk run.

Eater contacted USHG re: NJ Shake Shack rumors. Here's the response:

"Many thanks for reaching out. We feel extremely fortunate for the great interest in Shake Shack. As you may be aware, we have openly expressed our intention to bring Shake Shack to compelling sites in great neighborhoods. As such, rumors often circulate about potential openings. We have decided not to comment on any of these rumors until we have something concrete to share. At this time we are focusing our efforts on the operations of our existing Shacks, as well as three new Shacks slated to open this summer: Miami Beach, Theater District and the Upper East Side."

Shake Shack is very secretive about new locations they plan to open. The response that RGR got back from them is there way of saying, 'we're keeping them a secret until we want to tell you'.
