Aria in Charlotte?

southernitalian Jun 10, 2010 11:42 AM

Anyone been? I've been asked to make a reservation for about ten out of town co-workers for next Wednesday night. Has to be uptown. I'm thinking Aria but haven't been. Can anyone give it a thumbs up/down? Any other suggestions?

I have only been to Aria for a wine event, it is a beautiful space and the food served was delicious. It is a modern space, a group of ten would probably have a great dinner. Photos posted are of Aria.

The usual suspects in Charlotte: LuLu's, Customshop, Barrington's, The Fig Tree, Carpe Diem. A new restaurant just opened on Central, Bistro La Bon. I had an appetizer at the bar last night and I can't wait to go for the full experience!

Bentley's on 27th is a time warp restaurant with table side ceaser salad, Chateaubriand and flambe desserts, but it is a great place to take guest for cocktails! Beautiful view.

I've had several excellent meals (lunch and dinner) at Aria. I would definitely make a reservation there. Coco Osteria doesn't take reservations and it is very small. If you'd rather go there, get a reservation at Luce. Luce is the sister restaurant to Coco and they are right across from each other. In fact, Coco doesn't have a kitchen -- they use Luce's.

Don't be silly - of course they have a kitchen!

I've enjoyed my meals at Aria. It is not a culinary revelation, but it produces really nice, crowd-pleasing fare at a reasonable price and in a fun space. I think it would be perfect for a group of 10.

I haven't been to Aria yet, so I'm sorry I can't help with that. As far as othe suggestions, Coco Osteria has terrific food. Its small, but on a Wednesday night wth a reservation I wouldn't think that would create a problem. Chima is fun (although pricey) for a group. The thai place at 5th and College is good...I'm drawing a blank on the name...Blue Basil maybe? Or just Basil? I have heard that the restaurant in the Westin is really good...Ember Grill is the name, I think? Ratcliffe on the Green is very good also.

It's Basil and I've not been impressed. Also, a recent car accident on the corner over there has turned it into a temporary drive thru. Overpriced and bland. Two things I won't abide by in a Thai restaurant. Coco is a great place for lunch but a bit too "exposed" for dinner. Thanks Glimmer. I think for this crowd I'll play it safe and make the res for there. I'll report back.
