Corn Fed Steaks in Brooklyn

Looking for a butcher that sells Corn Fed steaks in Brooklyn. Been eating a lot of grass fed lately and would like to maybe do a side by side with some guests that are coming over on Sunday..

Thanks!

corn-fed beef is supermarket beef; basically, the typical.

Right. Corn-fed is the default. Grass-fed is the harder to find.

Saying it is the default just means that unless beef in the US is labelled grass fed, it will almost certainly be cornfed. But that doesnt mean its inferior - most if not all high grade prime steaks, like say those at Luger are corn-fed, or finished since the marbling standards for prime (and choice) can be hard to meet for fully grass-fed animals. Be intersting to hear the results of your side-by-side.

Oh I agree with you that the fact that the animal is grass- vs. corn-fed does not mean it will render a consistently better tasting product.

My father in law is convinced that a good corn fed steak is better to his taste.. He is the type of guy who eats all the fat on his plate..

I am seriously consiering juicing corn, making a compound butter and then serving it on his steak on Sunday.. Might be a fun idea.

you can't swing a dead hipster in Brooklyn without hitting some foodster telling you about their amazing grass fed beef.

Los Paesanos only has grass according to the guy on the phone.. The Meat Hook however, has grass fed and then another kind that is fed grass and then finished with corn, millet, grain combothingy.. Aged for 5 weeks.. Will go take a look.. If anyone has any other suggestions, I would appreciate it.

try staubitz--i'm pretty sure their prime steaks are corn-fed--most prime steaks are, as it's hard to get the requisite marbling with all grass fed, as Jen notes above.

I find staubitz beef to be consistently good. I know they get a lot of flack on this board, and I use paisanos for most other things, but for beef i go to staubitz as i think their beef is better.
