Folks -

I have an opportunity to sneak away with my wife for the weekend with no kids!!!! It's her birthday on Sunday and our anniversary in 2 weeks...We like just about anything as long as its well prepared and we are certainly not afraid to take a chance....Price is not really an issue....However, ambiance should be a very large factor on this particular occasion (one would think, anyway!) ...Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I think you will be very happy if you go to the Inn at Weathersfield--just 10 minutes from Springfield (depending where in Springfield you are) up on Rte 106. The dining room is beautiful but not stuffy but the food is the real aphrodisiac...fresh, local, creative and satisfying. Up a little farther on Rte 106 is Keeper's in Reading VT. Also very delicious with a warm ambiance. Farther up the road on Rte 106 is the Kedron Valley Inn in South Woodstock VT. An old Inn with a wonderful bar area and a romantic dining room. Very new owners and I have not yet tasted their food but used to be delicious. If you are willing to travel an hour you really have a lot of choices -- I hope others with comment but you are within range of places in Chester VT, and there's Juniper Hill in Windsor VT and I think Home Hill Inn in NH would be within range. Still, I'd go with my first three recommendations. Let us know what you decide
