Anyone want to weigh in? LaColombe or LeQuartier General?

Down to the wire now with reservations. Since a lot of restos closed sun. & mon., I have the choice of LaColombe for Sat. nite or LeQuartier General. I think LaColombe might be more romantic for an anniversary, maybe? I've never been to either.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions. It's very helpful when you're all the way here in Jersey!

  1. Shopgirl - I can only comment on La Colombe (never having been to Le Quartier General). I think La Colombe rates as one of the top 4-5 BYOWs in the city. There are plenty of reviews on this board. Expect beef/deer/lamb and bring a bottle of red that suits a meat centric meal. And if you like fois gras you have to order the poele - best fois gras deal in Montreal! See if you can reserve the corner table by the window...

Thanks, Jed. That's the way I'm leaning. It just sounds a bit more romantic. Guess Le Quartier General will have to be saved for another trip. I did constantly read that it is rated one of the best BYOWs. Thank you for your input. I do appreciate it. I will post upon our return.

I will be the dissident voice..... I went to La Colombe for a birthday dinner a year ago and was very disappointed. I have to say that we went to the first service and I think it is always the worst one. They only want to get rid of you so the waiters are often in a hurry. The food was not very good. We were quite a large group and the majority of us were disappointed.

I went to Monsieur B recently and I think it was way better. I don't go to BYOW much anymore but La Colombe is not a very good choice. I can only be dissident and not bring much to the table because I don't have a back up plan for you. Monsieur B is the only one I can recommend.

Hey there, this is probably too late but just wanted to let you know that you've got the wrong link above. Quatier Generale is located in the Plateau. As far as I can tell they don't have a website but here's a review I found accurate : ... I absolutely LOVE this resto and the price is a steal. Definitely recommended for your next visit, be sure to reserve well in advance though!

Thanks, moochoo...I realized it was the wrong link, but I had the right one. And Jed and thanks. Here's the outcome: Reservations at La Colombe (then the fireworks); Les Heritiers (our fav for a long time); then Monsieur B's (been there a couple years ago and really liked it.
I will be sure to post when we come back end of June! Thanks to everyone!
