I'm a huge Ruths Chris fan, didn't like LG's, haven't tried Morton's yet but was told that Mastro's beats Ruths Chris & the rest any day???
At Ruths Chris I prefer the petite filet, salad with the remoulade, creamed spinach, creme brulee of course...
Any input?

been to both places recently, and would say that mastro's hands down was the best steak although their sides albeit large were not the best, but for atmosphere i'd rather be at arnie morton's.

I have only eaten at the Arnie's in Palm Desert and thought nothing of it. I know where the BH unit is located, but what is it that draws you to it? The food, decor, or what?
Like the OP, I like Ruths and Mastro's quite a lot, and was wondering if I should give them another try.

well, first off, arnie's isn't nearly as crowded and noisy. i have always enjoyed the old time supper clubby feeling enhanced by their wonderful staff. and mostly what i always count on there is consistency. i know it's going to be a great meal with attentive service. but like i said, mastro's surprised me with it's steaks and appetizers.

you are right with this one, I think Morton's blows away them all, but only if you fancy char on the steaks, which I do - bread is killer, service and room are great, great bar/drinks, bigger portion on the steaks and <$ - can't wait to go back

Kurt, how is the wine list beyond just being expensive like the others? Some decent values, or is corkage the way to go. Evaluate if you would.

Hi Dick, hope you have been well - I am embarrassed to say that the only times I went to Morton’s I did not even look @ the list because we byo, but my guess would be the usual cab selection with high markups – I almost always byo these days, there are few lists that I like that are priced well – you know who has a good one with some real finds? - Angelina Osteria of all places – they had some sea smoke for less than retail last time I was there, I even brought a few bottles from them – you never know. I don't know the weight, but the NY @ morton's is absolutely huge - nobody in there right mind would eat the thing alone - ditto for the salad portions – what we usually do is have 1 shrimp cocktail, 1 ceasar and 1 steak – total for that and the cork, tax and tip is a little over $ 100 and I leave stuffed and well satisfied – I think a decent syrah is the way to go there, really nice with the char – the herman story stuff is drinking well now, the 03 from the larner vineyard was killer and even the 03 grenache from the same vy is great. Other good matches have been the 03 Hug syrah from the bassett vy, super wine and the Honig 99 cab from the stage coach vy which was a nice match. Thinking about it, I am going to morton’s this weekend I think

The New York at Morton's is at least 20 ounces, I seem to recollect the number 24 or 26. I have always finished mine, but alas will not be seeing another one for many, many a moon while on the Liquid Diet.

The New York Strip at Morton's is by far the tenderest, juciest, most flavorful New York steak I have ever had. Every time, at every branch of Morton's. They really do have the consistency down, and all their meat is prime, aged beef, all of it coming from a single commissary (which has a lot to do with the consistency).

Their giant onion roll, is just that, a giant, unremarkable onion roll. The sourdough at Arroyo Chop House is infinately better bread. But then the steaks at Morton's are infinately better.

If you like steak with a great bread basket, the Palm is the place. Their bread is not only very good, but the basket comes heaped with several varieties -- sourdough, raisin-walnut (I have a slice for dessert), etc. All tasty and the selection varies a bit from visit to visit. Plus, you gotta love the waiters . . .

I'll never forget the first time I ate at the BH branch and had a woman waiter. I almost fell off my chair. It's not the same since they started offering a printed menu, but I guess all things change. Also, Gigi is sorely missed. I was hardly what you'd call a regular, but he always APPEARED to recognize me and welcome me to his "home".

Haven't had a chance yet to check out the downtown Palm . . .

I love Ruth's Chris but I have to go with Mastro's, hands down. Their sides are a little suspect but I don't go there for the sides. And I wouldn't even touch any of the deserts but for the chocolate covered strawberries.

The wine list is extensive and there are a couple of outstanding bottles. I think the corkage fee is $35

Mastros sides are suspect--if you misorder. The creamed spinach, corn and other regulars are average. The onion rings are probably the best I have ever had. The blue cheese and mac is superb. The bread basket is reason enough to make the trip.

On the meat issue, I prefer mastros bone in filet to any other filet. Yes its expensive, and I only go on the expense account, but it is truly a great cut of meat.
