Road Trip Chico, CA to Albany, OR; then Central to S Oregon Coast

BIGD Jun 8, 2010 02:35 PM

Driving from Chico to Albany on I5. Any good casual restaurants? Will then drive to the Oregon coast - looking for restaurants between Brandon and Tillamook. Any type of restaurants as long as they are not just average.

We live in Newport. Central Oregon coast. Two excellent restaurants for lunch or dinner. Local Ocean Seafood or Saffron Salmon. Avoid the lines at all the Mo's restaurants. Tourist trap.

lots of good places from Dunsuir to Yreka- a few are: Senthongs in Dunsmuir, Billygoat Tavern in Mt. Shasta, also if you are there on a Friday or Sat Mt. Shasta supermarket grills amazing ribs and chicken out in the parking lot, Gold Rush Burgers in Yreka, excellent burgers, fries. And then many great places in Ashland, OR. New Sammy's Cowboy Bistro is the absolute tops in my opinion, and very interesting backstory as well. Can be hard to get reservations though.

We frequent that area often, and sometimes average on the Oregon Coast is the best you can get. But, almost to Tillamook, in Pacific City, you will find an absolutely above average restaurant called "The Delicate Palate". For a sit down, excellent meal. They may be dinner only, but you can always check on that. Although fine dining (at a reasonable cost) you won't feel out of place in beach or traveling clothes either.

Thanks, we'll try to check that out. Can you recommend anything in Bandon or nearby North - not south?

For that specific area, unfortunately no. I had expected with the destination golf resort there there would be, but so far no. Probably because of the weather.....it's not good enough year around to support a good restaurant.

I have not eaten there myself but the Alloro Wine Bar & Restaurant in Bandon always gets excellent reviews.
