Great Cocktails on the Big Island?

hungrylady Jun 8, 2010 12:49 PM

Hello!
My husband and I, along with two of our friends, are heading to the Big Island and we’re looking for someplace to get GOOD cocktails. We’re kind of snobby about alcohol, and it would break our hearts to drink crappy sour-mix drinks. Any suggestions about where to find interesting cocktails made with fresh ingredients and with good liquor? We’re staying near Kauila Kona. Thanks for any advice!

Our last visit to Don the Beachcomber will be our last visit there. Disappointing cocktails. Beach Tree, Roy's at Waikaloa, believe it or not Forrest Gumps in Kona, and Daniel Thiebaut's are the best bet for west side cocktails. For an unexpected treat of magnificent cocktails, try Hilo Bay Cafe on the east side of the island. If you are visiting the volcano, Kilauea Lodge. Or book a special dinner for four at Mahinui Na Lani - private pavilion at the volcano with ono tiki drinks, all fresh.

The Beach Tree at the Four Seasons has excellent ambiance and is perfect for a sunset cocktail...just tell the guard at the gate that you'd like to have drinks at the Restaurant/Bar...you won't be disappointed!
