Looking for a new Friday night place in Mount Airy area

We have been disappointed by Wine Thief a few times recently and want to try something new, with a decent wine selection, not really pricey and kid friendly., Any suggestions?

  1. It's kind of a beer-zone, what with McMennamins and EBB on the same strip. Both have wine, but I've never ordered it at either. I would tend to think that EBB would do a good job of choosing their wines, though.
Oh, and McMenamins might not be that kid-friendly, but EBB certainly is.

Wow, sorry to hear Wine Thief not so good recently, went early on and had a good meal.
Cafette in Chestnut Hill has excellent food and great fried chicken dinner every friday. It is BYOB and also has nice outdoor patio. Not Mt. Airy, but not too far, on Ardleigh a few blocks up from Willow Grove Ave.

I don't know what happened there -- maybe a new chef? The last few times we've been there, everything was overcooked, the sauces were heavy -- and friends have reported the same. We will check it out again soon though, as the service is wonderful and they are great with the kids.

Had dinner at Wine Thief Monday night. The trout was excellent; the fried chicken was way overcooked.

and the last time we were there both were overcooked!

      2. Have you been to Avenida? Definitely kid-friendly and the outdoor ptio in back is lovely.

we love it but we always spend too much there -- must be the margaritas (which are amazing)

        2. What about Earth Bread and Brewery? Of course they are known more for their beer (which is quite good), but I do recall they have a nice small reasonable wine selection. They are also very kid friendly, if you go on the early side you will always see a few highchairs and the laid back atmosphere is good for kids. Plus theor dessert pizza is to die for!

Second the Earth Bread. Very kid friendly. consistently good. Request seating upstairs..and ask for Omar. beer selections are very good and the wine selection is nice as well. Recommend the seed flatbread..and the wheatberry salad..
