Pop-up blocker interfering with permalink?

I have tried, twice, today to point a user to a useful link. The first try was a disaster I own. The second: I opened a new post in the current topic, then (through a new window) opened the post I wanted to link, hit permalink on the originating post (I wanted to link the whole thread), and then used copy and paste . . . up there . . . at the top where an 'address' resides. There was a pop-up blocked message at the time of permalink, which I am trained to ignore, so I suspect I copied the wrong URL?

When I went back to the post I wanted, I tabbed down below my written message, and then used C&P to provide the link. The URL was then displayed three characters into the message I had already typed over the space I meant for the URL to land. I then used C&P to move the URL down to where I wanted it. I hit 'reply', and then got a rather endless 'processing-whirly-icon' that lasted for several minutes. I stopped the action and refreshed, and the whole lapsed-Ludite mess just vanished.

I am gifted in many areas, but I know see this is not one. Feel free to talk to me as if I am a small child.

Are you on a PC or a Mac?

If you're on a PC, try doing a right-click on the permalink, then pasting it where you want it.

If you're on a Mac and don't have a two-button mouse, do control-click on the permalink, then paste it where you want it.

PC. Right-click on permalink, instead of left? I thought I had to left-click on the permalink tab to engage it, and then right click on the URL to copy and paste. Oy-to-the-vey.

You don't need to "engage" it first by left-clicking. You can head straight for the right-click and choose "Save link as" or whatever option your particular browser gives you. (Sorry - I left out that extra step!) Hope this helps. Try it!
