Jam Cafe - surprised it's not busier!
I meant to post this earlier, I as do like to give a good shout out to neighbourhood restaurants. M. and I enjoyed a lovely early dinner on the back patio of this little cafe during the hot weather spell..website noted they had BYOW with no corkage on sundays, so that was the actual push for us to go...plus, I had looked at their menu several times and saw several things I was interested in trying out..
Our waitress was quite possibly one of the sweetest, yet professional servers I have yet to encounter..very impressed! Baguette with hummus and olives started us off (and was replenished without us asking). We split a 'frito misto", which wasn't the best I have had, but certainly tasty..sort of tempura fried shrimp, salmon and calamari..smallish portion for about 9.00. They had a nice prix fixed menu (seafood bisque or salad/halibut and chips/wild boar spaghettini/veg risotto plus a brioche bread pudding). M. chose this option (more food for less price) he was impressed by the soup and the frites..front end of the fish was delish but the back end he pronounced "a bit soggy" (one hates a soggy back end).caramel bread pudding was really excellent..had a sticky toffee vibe that I seem to enjoy lately. I had the lobster/chorizo/gnocci hot pot (I feel this is not the right name, but it's the best I can do)..slightly overcooked lobster but still darn good..but it was the in house made gnocchi that rocked my world..melted in the mouth. I'll go back for those in a heartbeat (they are on the menu as a starter)..our server highlighted that they smoke their own salmon as well as many of their meats. They usually have boar and/or elk on the menu...the burgers looked spectacular and apparently they will "cook to order" (so rare burger lovers might want to check it out)
The best part? No attitude when we pulled out our rather cheapy bottle of wine..just a big smile and an ice bucket...and the total bill was about 50.00!! Check it out on a sunday when the weather is nice and you don't feel like cooking..or even in the rain, the interior space is quite nice as well..
