World cup locations

Well world cup is almost upon us, which means what to a bunch of foodies? BREAKFAST/BRUNCH. I am not a breakfast connoisseur so I don't really know what typical foreign breakfasts are. But I am a soccer fan (futball), and since the games are at 4:30, 7:00 and 11 am now is the perfect time to indulge my pallette. So I spend a week gathering locatons that are open during the world cup and am willing to share with everyone in hopes that a lot more foreigners will be there to rally behind their squad (and buy me a pint too!)

So since I've provided the locations Im hoping people can let me know what a typical country's breakfast consists of. Also if you can fill in the blanks on any other locations that will host specific countries I am missing let me know.

  1. To be added.... in the United States, in L.A.:
    8 1/2 Taverna - 11334 Moorpark St., Studio City, CA 91602 - 818-308-1100 or 877-340-1848 http://www.8andahalf.com

I don't believe they are open for the 4:30 games though, but the 7 and 11:30 games for sure!

Anyone know of places where I can get a Chinese breakfast (soymilk/donut, congee, dim sum) or Mexican and watch the games? I'm more interested in the low down places where I can nurse a glass of soymilk or horchata and watch the games with some cranky locals.

      1. re: tdonline

I can't speak for where you'd find the Chinese or Mexican breakfast option w/the game, but I'm quite sure you'll find plenty of cranky locals where ever you go.... ;)

        1. re: tdonline

try the Blue Goose Lounge for the low down places & comfort sitting. Was there for USA-England game. Very cool. They had drink special prices & served delicious king english breakfast and bacon wrapped hot dogs. Besides, how can you say no to $4 jameson shots??

Adddress is 5201 W Sunset Blvd Los Angeles CA. They are open for all the 64 games, showing LIVE.

      2. For England, you can add Cock 'n' Bull in Venice. Also, all Korean games will be shown at the Staples Center. http://www.powerhouselive.net/default...

BTW guys, this is off topic, but can we agree not to post spoilers in this or any World Cup LA thread? A lot of us TIVO/download games. Thanks -AK

        1. Le Saint Amour in Culver City (French) shows all the 11 AM games, and they serve a lunch special (1 soup or salad + 1 main + 1 glass of wine) rather than a breakfast.

And Bulgarini Gelato (Italy) in Altadena is open and shows ALL the games even the 4.30 AM ones and they will serve pastries and I think espresso

          1. The Fox and Hounds Pub only requires tickets as placeholders. the money for the ticket gets deducted from your bill, so admission ends up being free.

            1. The 1739 Public House in Los Feliz is opening at 7 am every day and serving breakfast. The food isn't spectacular but obviously that's not what people are there for.

                1. I went to Waterloo & City in Culver City for the USA/England game which was pretty cool. Although I wasnt too impressed with the brunch menu they have a nice beer list and are open early for most of the big World Cup games. Very fun environment as well.

                  1. Guelaguetza on Olympic would be a great place to watch the games. Their big screen is huge (probably the largest I've seen in a restaurant), and their food and drinks are really good.

Another good place to watch is Fresh Korean BBQ in Van Nuys. The AYCE BBQ is good, and there are some hard core Korean soccer fans in the place (people jumping out of their seats, hollering, etc.). The only problem is the TV is hard to see from some of the booths. They should probably invest in a larger screen.

                    1. Thanks very much for posting this comprehensive list.

I would add Henry's Hat on Cahuenga, near Universal.

BUT -- I am wondering if anyone knows exactly when the FINAL match will be screened LIVE on Sunday, July 11th?

I have checked my TV schedule -- 10.30am -- but I am a little bit confused as an event I know about on Sunday (that mentions the Soccer) doesn't start until 12 noon...

If anyone could please put me straight, I'd appreciate it. thanks.

Okay, I called Fox & Hounds (Studio City) and kick off is 11.30am. Their doors open at 10.30, FYI.
NB - $10 ticket required (as mentioned upthred that gets deducted from your bill anyway.)

Ok, does anyone have an update on best large HD projector based screen and food venue to watch this Sunday's final?

                              1. re: Sgee

Q's on the westside has lots of screens an a big projector screen downstairs. Food wise they are okay for a sports bar.

They have been pretty fun for the whole tournament.

                                1. re: AAQjr

Tavern has 2 flat screen TV's in the bar and will be serving brunch from 10:00AM.
