Birthday Brunch

  • 6

I'm looking to a great place to host my husband's 30th b'day brunch. Any place in the city with great views and good food. I'm looking for American/French brunch options. I'm not sure how much the price scale should be. I'll be paying for everyone (~12 people) so I want to keep it under control (~ideally 30-40 per person but more if it is truly worth it.

Any suggestions? What might we do after to entertain our out of town guests?

I'm also thinking of having brunch and dessert in two different places. what do you think?

One option is to have brunch at the boat house and then walk around central Park. But I'm desperately looking for other choices. The event will be in mid Sept. Please help

  1. 30th birthday, great views, brunch. Hm....

Great views part has me stumped. You can try some places on the water perhaps. The Frying Pan maybe, although they dont take reservations.

You can eat somewhere on the UWS/UES and then take your guests to Central Park. This would open up your options, but you wouldn't have great views during brunch.

Any suggestions for good brunch places? Should I consider a prix fixe menu? Views are optional. I'm looking for a place that takes reservations. Please help! Thank you

    2. Restaurants in NYC with an outstanding view are few but my favorite other than the River Cafe is The Water Club. It should meet your budget less drinks but what's a BD celebration without drinks. It might be too much over your budget. I hope you find what you are looking for.

The Water Club @ The East River at 30th St., New York, NY 212 - 683 - 3333.

Narrowing it down to ONLY American/French:

        Alice's Tea Cup: multiple locations
Blue Ribbon Bakery: they can seat bigger groups downstairs
        Freemans: private room
        Jane: private room
        Market Table
        Markt
Park Ave Spring: aka Park Avenue Summer aka Park Avenue Fall aka Park Avenue Winter as the seasons change
        Pastis: communal table
Public: semi-private long table area -- not really American/French but eclectic
Schiller’s: I do think Balthazar and Pastis are better, though
Stanton Social: booths, upstairs bar/lounge area -- not really American/French but eclectic

        1. Hmm. why don't you see if you can make a reservation for 12 on the rooftop of Brass Monkey. They have a $10-$12 brunch special that includes a drink and the views of the water are beautiful if you sit on the rooftop. They are rarly busy before 3 pm so I don't think you would have a problem.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I'm leaning towards Park Avenue Autumn, Water Club or Jane after my online research. If I decide on Park Avenue Autumn, I'm thinking of heading to a dessert place later on. Any suggestions, My initial take was lady M boutique or Le Pain Quotidein. I appreciate your suggestions so much. Thank you!!!
