Greek in Astoria
The wait at taverna Kyclades on Saturday at 9:30 was over an hour and so we tried Mezzo a Greek place just down the block on Ditmars ; the meal was excellent- Grilled Branzino and Grilled Red Snapper for main courses- fish itself was beautiful and grilled perfectly so that the skin was deliciously crisp. First course was a very nice country Greek salad and meal ended with a free dessert.
went to kyclades for the first time last nite, plenty confused to due the on and off rain but well worth the rain.
the peasant salad is lovely and the large is enough for three-to-four people
the dorado while 26 bucks was enough for me and my wife and had the very nice picked beets.
the wife had the lemon potatoes which are not my thing but she well liked.
big surprise was the free dessert which is a custard wrapped in phyllo, a lovely touch.
the etsina wine for 10 bucks for 500 ml tasted like paint thinner in my wife's words but i liked it with plenty of ice cubes.
however i promptly went to sleep when i got home.
the service was attentive and knowledgeable.
net, net, not to be missed and especially at 60 bucks for two and we were stuffed, in agood way.
