El Pato Salsa - What am I missing?
I am at wit's end. There is a spice in El Pato salsa that I can not figure out for love or money. Here's the recipe so far, but I am definitely missing a spice:
8 oz tomato sauce
1/4 tsp garlic salt
1/8 tsp onion salt
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp powdered chile de arbol
1/2 tsp paprika
1/16 tsp ground clove and allspice
1/4 tsp vinegar (white)
salt to taste

Yellow Mustard seed
Black Mustard seed
Has anyone had El Pato? Do you know the flavor I am speaking about? I require assistance, please.

Hi Johny 5, New to this board....I LOVE El Pato....just recently discovered and now have stock in it b/c I buy it so much! Would love to learn how to make it and have tried your recipe and added ground oregano...just a little bit at a time. Try it....is this the spice you are missing?
I prefer green can, used both for decades. I don't really care for real chunky salsa and the green can fits the bill, excellent taco sauce right out of the can. If you have 99 cent or dollar tree stores near you they carry all three yellow, green & red(enchilada sauce) in 27.5 oz cans for a buck!
