go to any of the cafes/lunch spots on 3rd during the week - this includes Doughboys, Toast, and Joan's on 3rd. All have high celeb sighting chances during the week. teens also love shopping, which 3rd street has plenty of (including the Farmer's market and the Grove at 3rd and Fairfax).

Anymore info you could give us? Where in LA will you be? And, perhaps most important, what do your girls like to eat (ie, are they adventurous)? Is food the driving force, or do you want to experience quintessentially LA type places (they tend to be somewhat mutually exclusive).

This will help fine tune the advice you get.

Also in this area, Urth Cafe on Melrose has a high percentage of actor clientele, and Mary Kate and Ashley seem to go frequently to Swinger's on Beverly (although no one knows if they actually eat there.) Swinger's is like an updated diner, so it should be easy to find something everyone will eat there. And the cafe at Fred Segal on Melrose is pretty good, and they can get some shopping and gawking in as well.

What a cool page!!! After your rec in Orange County, I am always looking for your posts. Too bad I can't get down to Southern Cal more than a couple of times a year. I have bookmarked your page-- too cute, too entertaining and I am sure great suggestions. Thanks!

in addition to the places already suggested (on 3rd St, Urth Cafe and Fred Segal) the Newsroom on Robertson is another good place w/ a large, varied menu (healthy and tasty), a very "l.a." clientele (and staff) and good shopping on the same street (they'll love Kitson, 1 block down from the Newsroom, and there are many other shops on that 2 block stretch).

While in SM, take them for a late bkfst at the Sidewalk Cafe on the boardwalk (actually the cementwalk) in Venice. Good chow in the heart of zanyville, just a short walk from the muscle pit, bb courts, Jody Moroni (for a post-bkfst Yuca sausage), & of course that big water out there.

Well, it really depends on their interests. If they are more into "haute couture", big fans of more like Mary Kate and Ashley, Julia Roberts, etc., then I'd say Beverly Hills, 3rd Street, Beverly Center, the Grove, etc. For food, there are so many choices. If they would appreciate it (and your wallet could handle it), splurge on Spago. Or, if not, and they just want food (and they are picky), go somewhere like Cheesecake Factory, where if they can't find something on the menu they like, they you'll need to be posting about therapists in LA.

If they're the kind of girls who would go ga-ga if they met Linkin Park or Foo Fighters or Green Day, go to the "funky" part of Melrose (you can start on the Beverly Hills (western) end of Melrose, and keep heading east. There they can shop in vintage stores galore, for all those little t-shirts, etc., and get in some fabulous (read: fascinating) people watching. I believe that Angelli Cafe, posted about here many a time, is quite close.

I think either way, since you'll be in Hollywood, perhaps head to the Hollywood and Highland center. At least then they can see where the Oscars are held, can do some shopping, can view a few stars on the sidewalk, etc. For food, Vert is discussed frequently on here (another Wolfgang Puck locale), and there are some other restaurants in the center that I'm sure are passable.
