Has anyone been to the Naked Oyster in Hyannis, MA? I am on the fence after looking at the website. Any info would be great. Also, any other hidden gems in Hyannis are always appreciated.

We used to go there all the time and loved it--best seafood on the Cape. Then suddenly about a year ago the food went downhill, and we heard they had changed owners. Now I understand they have moved to Main St. We may try it again.

I won't likely go back..I deplore Main St. Hyannis..the other location was ideal. I had the best mussels of my life there....

Phelana, I'm surprised to see you post this about Main St. Hyannis. I know in the past you've lauded The Island Merchant. If I always avoided Main Street I'd miss out on some of the best the Cape has to offer IMO.....The Eclectic Cafe, Alberto's, and Embargo to name a few.

I will say that the new location for The Naked Oyster is a bit of a head scratcher as I believe it's a tiny storefront squeezed in between Puritans and The British Beer Co.

CCG, I'll hazard a guess that phelana is simply expressing disappointment with the move. She was satisfied with the original, old location, as was I. Yet, I did meet folks not pleased whit the old location, its, size, shape, and use of tall stools in the dining area. I liked it. As you know, small business faces many pressures. The dynamics of the old location may have turned sour for a variety of reasons. If the Naked Oyster food and performance are good, I don't think Main Street will be a negative. Still, phelana could be on to something regarding Main Street as a spot for a restaurant that has won a small, dedicated, crowd for a decade. Ah, might the lease have been up thereby forcing a decision to move? Phelana knows her eats. Her information I have found to be valuable. I feel there is deeper meaning to the thought posted.

I was in no way disparaging Phelana's opinions on this board. I too respect her postings here. I was just surprised at her statement regarding Main Street. Perhaps you are correct in that she simply prefers the old location.

Whoops, sorry, CCG my words came across in an unintended way. Written words, most often when without the advantage of close association between the people writing or helpful eye contact, can easily and often carry mistaken meaning. Again, my apologies to you that, in this instance, I did not convey my meaning clearly. Give me a second try: Your mention of main Street eateries that have merit is so true. And, there are others that have been singled out like Brazilian Grill, Palios Pizza, Seaside Grill. What I was trying to convey in my last sentence was that phelana posted a brief comment. Had there been time for more thoughts and an extended comment there might have been a more complete context to consider the disappointment with a Main Street move by Naked Oyster. I never felt you intended to or did "disparage" this comment. Yours was a reasonable reply and I do agree. There are a dozen or so regular posters I have found on Chowhound that excel in their knowledge of food and have remarkably widespread experience. The contributions of these food savvy folks has been of enormous benefit to me. And, thank you CCG for all you have offered.

simply put I prefer the previous location..I can come down lovely 6 A and run up Mary Dunne Road. I don't fancy Main St. Hyannis..sorry..I used to work at the former Penguins and Eclectic and know the scene ...Yes, I liked Island Merchant ..Paulio's is great too..I just don't love Main St. Hyannis but I will say I have not spent a summer on Cape Cod in 10 years..most of you know I am an off season Cape Codder..haaa..I find I am leaning more towards my neck of the woods and crossing the bridge (Bass River -joke) is not my preference these days.

I've been a few times with mixed results. Once outstanding and another, well, not so much.

Word I hear is that they are moving to Main Street Hyannis.

Yes, the move makes sense as I recall a common beef being the location. The gripe would go like this: jeepers, I'm on Cape Cod where view and/or the drive to the restaurant has to be special. Now Main Street Hyannis is not exactly a solution to this complaint but there is a "definable" Cape Cod environment. It's always a crap shoot when a small business ups and moves so any change will be interesting to watch.
