We had a birthday dinner at Fishworks in mid-August. It is a lovely space, nice and open with high ceilings and a bar on the left as you enter. There are a couple of tables on the sidewalk but we sat inside. On a very warm day it was cool and inviting. Service was above average and well informed. The food was delicious, with fairly simple but clean preparations. The bread was excellent, though I've forgotten the provenance thereof -- it came in large cubes and was brown.

Two of us shared crab cakes, the other two the beet and arugula salad for appetizers. I couldn't try the crab cakes (can't eat crab) but reports were very positive. The beet salad was also tasty if a tad underseasoned for me. We had the scallop risotto, the halibut and the sablefish as mains. I tried all three (mine was the sablefish which oddly I have no photo of) and found them all above average, which I find is a feat in Vancouver where good seafood without breaking the bank is hard to come by. The halibut was a daily special and came with a mixed berry compote as a sauce, at which I looked askance but it seemed to work. I only wish this resto were on my side of the water as I would attend regularly if it were. Total bill for four with a bottle of wine $172.48
