Did anyone else know that Cheeky Monkey now has a patio? Stopped by for takeout yesterday and was surprised to see signs pointing to a patio out back. (not the tables out front).
Very cute space. Fenced in. Some tables and some couches. Plus they've got water out there (a big plus for me). Looking forward to going back and checking it out.

Crema on Lyndale in Minneapolis has an awesome patio...very secluded and has a real Mediterranean feel. The ice cream is fantastic. I've never eaten anything but when I'm there but I understand they have "real" food as well.

re: soupkitten
I went to moto i a few times in the Spring. The rooftop is quite nice, but not that elegant. Im not so sure if they have changed things up there at all cos I havent been there for a while. From what I recalled, they have several bar stools and also kind of like picnic tables up there.
The food there is not that consistent. Three - four times I was there, I ordered a few same dishes every time, but somehow they always taste different. Well, I went there only for HH though so maybe the regular might be good?

re: moomon
pity. i must say that it seems like moto-i is consistent. . . about being half-assed about stuff.
in contrast, i will say that obento-ya has a delightful tiny fenced in patio behind the restaurant, with shade and decorative accents. it is a non-smoking patio.

In addition to the $4 half-pound hamburger served on Manic Mondays, Lord Fletchers also has a Wednesday special starting at 4 PM on the outdoor dock called Lobster Night. They serve whole lobsters with roll, cole slaw and ears of corn for $15. We tried it for the first time yesterday.
Like the Manic Monday burger you go up and pay cash and get served in line. If you want anything else like other sides and drinks, the wait staff takes care of you. This is a sample of what you get on Lobster Night.

Was Psycho Suzie's Motor Lounge already mentioned? To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of the place, but it is very popular, has good (and stiff) drinks, and their pizza's are pretty decent. If it's more about the drinks and the scene than the food, Psycho Suzie's is a good bet.
Also (and apologies if this was already mentioned) is the new entry in Uptown, the Uptown Cafeteria and Support Group. The view is excellent, the drinks are very good, and the few appetizers I had were very good given it's role. It's more about the view and the drinks than the food there. But compared to it's competition across the street (Stella's), the food at Cafeteria is much better, while the views and prices are parallel.
I think it depends on what your emphasis is. If it's food first, then places like Solera and Craftsman are great bets. If it's on the view (and you want to stay in MPLS or STP), then Stella's and Cafeteria are possibly your best choices.

Try la chaya on Nicollet Ave. and 46th St. in Mpls. The food is really good and interesting and their patio is delightful, but a bit on the small side. http://www.lachaya.com/

In continuing my photo gallery of Lake Minnetonka outdoor patios we went to the Caribbean last night. This one is an easy walk from our house. The Caribbean was closed for a few years and then opened again last summer on weekends. This year during the boating season it is open 7 days per week starting at 5 PM during the week and noon on the weekends for mainly the boaters. The menu is limited to bar food that you can pick up and eat with your hands.

Last evening we took in Manic Monday at Lord Fletcher's Old Lake Lodge outdoors on the wharf. The place was packed mainly because they have a special featuring grilled full half-pound hamburgers for $4 and Miller bottled beer for $1.75. Lord Fletcher's has to be about the largest patio seating wise. People watching is great as it watching a constant stream of boats coming through the channel. There couldn't be a better summer spot.

Second the Craftsman.
It's Greek to Me has a great patio and I understand a great bar (I don't drink much). Food is OK.
I also like the little patio at El Norteno on 40th and Lake, beer only and I admit the food has not been as great as I thought it used to be. It is an ever so pleasant space with the nicest people running the place.
Joe's Garage is a great deck/patio and the bar food is not bad.
There seems to be an explosion of outside space this summer. Please let us know what else new and exciting you find.

Heck, I can walk to Maynard's and Lord Fletcher's. ;) I agree. The people watching, boat watching and view is unmatched. I could add Lola's Lakehouse in Waconia on Lake Waconia to that list. On weekends for an excellent burger, Casablanca in Tonka Bay is fun and relaxing.
My overall vote goes to Lord Fletcher's Wharf on "Manic Mondays" where you can get a $4 half-pound grilled burger and a $1.75 Miller beer and watch the parade of boats go by.

I would be remiss in not adding Bayside Grille in Excelsior to this list. It is right next door to Maynard's tucked behind the Bayview Events Center so you sometimes forget it is there. They have a very large outdoor patio with two outdoor bars and a fairly extensive menu. We had Walleye wraps, Walleye sandwiches and Philly Cheesesteaks last night. The place was packed as was Maynard's next door on a perfect summer night.
