String cheese? I have seen it around (I'm not talking about the processed shrinkwrapped stuff). Have you tried all the usual suspects? (eg All the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean, etc. grocery stores)?

actually no i have not, was hoping to save some of the leg work, any specific, more likely places fmed?

You're in East Van right? Try Mediterranean Specialties on Commercial or Yek-o-yek on Main.

Or if you happen to be further west, I have purchased this cheese (without knowing the cool name!) at Parthenon. Here it is a Lebanese brand IIRC and you will find it in the open cooler on the south wall at the back of the store near the haloumi.

hey greyelf do you remember if it had the little black seeds in it (nigella seeds) ? they are supposed to have an oregano type flavour to them

Hey, now that you mention it, I think it did. It's been a while since I bought any (kinda addicted to the haloumi which has a similar pleasing squeak) so don't quote me though. You could give them a buzz and ask -- I find most of the staffers are very helpful. I'll look myself but I might not be in till Sunday...

went by there yesterday and they do indeed have it, although just labelled as "string cheese"
