I hear that Buffalo Rose's Pizza in Lakeville decent, but I've never been there so I really can't vouch. Bad thing is that they're only open for dinner. That's about all I'd even come close to recommending, as the other restaurants are a Subway and some hometown joint that I hear is horrible.
If I were you, I would stop by Bamber Superette on Mishawaka Ave and pick up some items for a picnic....

Thanks. I just got back. We ended up having late breakfast at the Hill Top Restaurant, which appears to be the most distinctive diner on that little town's main strip. But it was definitely not horrible, and I'm hard-pressed to imagine how someone could dislike the place so much. So maybe the place you heard about is someplace else entirely.
Anyway, I got one of their special breakfasts: the Spring Special is thin-sliced layered potatoes used as a bed for egg (I had over easy) topped by a mound of diced sweet peppers, grilled onions and ground sausage. It was good eats, but I would have preferred spicier sausage. It came with good-quality multigrain toast. I ordered a half portion but the amount that came out was still huge. My boy had the pancakes, bacon and eggs, and the bacon was better than average quality.
Service was impeccable and the people are really friendly, Hill Top Restaurant deserves thumbs up, at least for breakfast.
