Rural Texas finds, Alvarado and Roanoke

Benny’s Restaurant & Bar. Great food with large portions. A combination of Mexican and Italian. I had the Mexican first and then went back another evening for the Italian. Price is fair for the amount of food. Good service.

I was staying in the area for a couple of days on business and the hotel recommended them. Glad they did.

I was also at the Texas Motor Speedway, went into town and saw Dickey’s Barbeque Pit and gave it a try. I recommend it if you like BBQ.

I, too, was at TMS and ate in Roanoke. Had Babe's Chicken Dinner instead of Dickey's, however, and it was very good. I'll make Babe's a regular stop on any future trip to TMS.

Thanks for those recs. I often travel that way when going to East Texas, Dallas, or farther
North. I'll add Benny's to my list, since Mexican and Italian are two of my favorites. Traveling the smaller highways is my choice, since the food along the Interstate System is too horrendous to endure.
