Decatur/Huntsville, AL

I'm driving to Chattanooga tomorrow from Memphis and will be passing through Decatur and Huntsville, AL around lunchtime on the ways there and back. I'm looking for a couple of lunch options for either place.

Any input would be greatly appreciated

  1. Sounds like you'll be heading out on US 72 and there is the Alabama Crawfish Company on the outskirts. It would be quite handy for you.

We went not long after they opened and were already drawing a following. We had a good representation of their Cajun menu with the shrimp po' boy being a big hit for me.
Pistolettes, fried catfish as well as some hot tamales.
There's pictures on my blog as well as one of the front where the phone number is. You can call for their hours. The area code is 256

Big Bob Gibsons in Decatur is an institution. A very famous BBQ joint that invented white sauce. A mayo based sauce they use for chicken. It's probably not to be missed.

The last time I went it was to the Danville location. They make the pies there and they were great. The Q was excellent as well.
A local hound here went to the 6th Ave. location around the same time and was disappointed. The Danville crew told me that they were the better location.

Our experience has been the opposite. We prefer the original location on 6th, but it has been awhile since we tried the Danville location. Hmmmm....

Having tried the original location since my last post I will concur.

    2. In April we were in Decatur and had lunch at Big Bob Gibson's BBQ. I had always wanted to visit and try the white sauce. My wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meal, but the pork with traditional bbq sauce was much more enjoyable than the chicken with white sauce. Now I know! We will eat at Big Bob Gibson's when we next have the opportunity.
