Late night dinner downtown Portland

We are seeing Sting on Saturday night at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall and we are staying at the Nines. We would like to go out for a late dinner after the concert - preferrably in walking distance, but we could take the Max if needed. We prefer places that are quieter and have good (not overly hip/foodie) food and great service. Thanks for any ideas.

  1. We love Higgins, which is a short block away from the Schnitzer.

      1. Your hotel has both Urban Farmer and Departure, and both would do just fine, especially Departure, which I am sure is open late (though may be too hip).

Low key and good food is Cassidy's, and they have a late happy hour because they are a service worker hangout:

Another good choice is Gilt Club:

Thank you. These all look great. Now the problem we always have in Portland - having to choose.

Yeah, Departure is about as hip and loud as it gets. Urban Farmer would be quieter.

Gilt Club is a bit of a walk along a sketchy part of Broadway.

Higgis, Healthman or Southpark would all be great choices.

Thank you everyone. We ended up at Departure before the concert. Food was good and the view was spectacular as Hood was actually out. The Shrim Har Gau were very nice. I do agree though that later it would probably be rather loud. It was a good suggestion though and worked out well. Thank you everyone for your ideas.

Glad you had a good experience there! Thanks for reporting back...

          2. Gilt Club is our go-to place for after-show dining. The other place not mentioned yet that is a stone's throw from the Schnitz is Brasserie Montmartre. The level of quietness there will depend on the live music that night (which is always jazz and is never LOUD loud). I give them a half-hearted recommendation only because we've only been there once since their extensive remodel/revamp, but I'm sure we'll be back.

VQ closes at 10 and Higgins serves their dinner menu until 10:30 according to their websites.

VQ serves their Bar Menu until midnight and open until 230AM.

            2. Brasserie Montmartre has reopened, another late night option.

I just recently tried Brasserie Montmartre after having heard many good things. It was awful. Tasteless bouillabaisse and salad that had to be picked through. Cold, pale tomatoes. May be open late night, but not good food.
