Napa: casual + great lunch after DiRosa Preserve

We're heading over to DiRosa Preserve on July 3rd, and I'm looking for a lunch recommendation for afterward. All of the places I would like to go (for example, Bistro Jeanty, Cook, Cindy's, Martini House) seem to be in St. Helena and since it is a holiday weekend we'd rather not drive the extra miles on Hwy 29 to get there. Any thoughts on places to go close to DiRosa? We would like something casual/relaxing with great food and nice atmosphere. We'll have a party of 5 with a child (4 years old) and a grandma. Moderate price would be best. Thoughts on Boon Fly Cafe? Thanks!

There are 2 good choices either side of Di Rosa (a wonderful art destination still too little known in Napa). The first is Fremont Diner on the Sonoma side of Di Rosa. It's open for breakfast and lunch only featuring homemade breakfast and sandwich classics with a southern accent. Everything is cooked to order with top ingredients.

The second is the Boon Fly Cafe which you mention. This is the de facto dining room for the Di Rosa staff. I'm a regular there (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and always enjoy it. If you're on time for weekend brunch, begin with a starter of hot boonfly donuts and then take a chance on: eggs benedict, green eggs and ham or the breakfast flatbreads: smoked salmon or fried eggs with bacon. All are wonderful in a fun, active atmosphere. Great for kids. If it's lunch, consider the arugala salad or the kobe burger. Both top notch. The Boon Fly (essentially an upscale but still casual version of the neighborhood diner) also has a full bar for all meals.

Have fun at Di Rosa and thereafter!

On May 6, the Sonoma Sun had this blurb on Fremont Diner: "Although, the most impressive showing of spring produce perfection was found this week at the Fremont Diner! Farmer’s Toast with Laura Chenel goat cheese and mint mashed peas on Della Fattoria’s crusty bread is a sublime starter or light lunch. Beer-battered baby artichokes were flawless little crispy fritters. Fava beans are a tasty treat, pan-fried with smoked chili salt and lemon skin. The veggies are from Greenstring Farm and proof eating locally and seasonally is a delicious part of life. "

I think Fremont Diner fits the bill perfectly for "casual + great lunch." And so close to DiRosa. I've only eaten outside, which is really nice, but could be scary with a wandering 4-year-old so close to the road. There are tables inside too though I think?

If you want to head into downtown Napa, my suggestions are Azzurro Pizzeria on Main and Clinton or Norman Rose Tavern on 1st St.

Also agree with Fremont Dinner. Had lunch there yesterday after DiRosa and the Brisket and pulled pork sandwiches were outstanding.

Have been going to Napa for seven years now and Boon Fly is our favorite "Lunch on the way from San Francisco" place. Love the Flat Bread Pizzas. You can also get fresh dounuts - Yum! Plus you can go to Domain Carneros right after for some delicious Bubbly.
