crazy to go for crab in June?

Hi all-
I have guests coming into town next week from Maryland, and they are big blue crab lovers. I would love to introduce them to dungeness crab -- specifically to the roasted dungeness at Thanh Long -- but I'm wondering if that's a bad idea this late in the season.

I know the crab there at this time of year is unlikely to be local, but do you supposed it would still be fresh and tasty? Or should I skip the crab feed and turn them on to some other SF delicacy instead?

  1. If someone's never had Dungeness and aren't going to be regular visitors, I'd introduce them to it even if it isn't local. A lifetime ago, my brother and SIL in Atlanta were shaking their heads when I told them I'd brought THREE for us to have. She's from Savannah and was thinking 'what on earth are we going to do with three little crabs?'

    1. as our local crab season ends in late may/ follows up the coast to Alaska so I wouldn't worry.

      1. The dungeness won't be as fresh, tasty or cheap as in season but it should still be pretty good. They still might not like them given they're not soft shell blue crab, OTOH sometimes size does matter.
