Wat Dong Moon Lek's pork belly with crispy spicy green beans

  • 6

Wat Dong Moon Lek's pork belly with crispy spicy green beans is my new favorite thing to eat in Silver Lake.

I've been to Wat Dong Moon Lek a bunch of times and I don't know why no one told me about the pork belly dish; crispy, crunchy, spicy, rich, sweet. I've gone back for the last two days in a row.

The pork soup and hainan chicken with rice were worth a few visits but the pork belly with crispy spicy green beans is very very good.

Cash only and the small parking lot kinda sucks. Also it's byob.

If you love pork belly, try Sanamluang Cafe on Sherman Way in NoHo. Superb combination dish with duck and I forgot what else.

      2. This dish is all I ever get when going to Leks. It's the basil, greenbean, crispy porky and spicy-limey goodness working so well together that keeps me coming back for more. The owner once suggested I try it the Thai way with a fried egg on top. Wow, that was really super tasty.

Egg on top. I'll try that next time!

What else is not to miss?

The rambutan salad with coconut milk and fresh onions was light and "interesting." The curries are all nice -- but standard curries. The larb tod - spicy crispy chicken nuggets -- is good it reminds me of Indian pakora. I did NOT like the mussel crepe thingee -- too chewy for me.

I like the pork soup over the beef soup. They also serve it with no noodles.

        2. this is indeed a fabulous dish. I'm really liking this place. It's small and has a tight, focused menu and everything I've had there has been good to excellent. The first time I went, I was alone and ordered small wat dong moon lek noodles and the pork belly, thinking I'll eat the noodles and maybe half of the pork belly dish and take the leftovers home. I ended up eating everything there because it was so darn tasty.
