Lunch suggestions needed within walking distance of Hampton Inn Providence

abbs91 Jun 2, 2010 08:02 AM

We're spending the upcoming weekend in Providence and staying at the Hampton Inn Downtown (Weybosset St). We'll be leaving our daugther in the care of her grandparents at the hotel while we attend a college reunion on the other side of town. We'll be using our car to head over there, so grandma and grandpa won't have transportation. I'm looking for a lunch reccomendation for them that is in walking distance to the hotel. It's been forever since we spent anytime downtown. Thanks!

Many of the downtown lunch spots are closed on the weekends. I think the following places are open on Saturdays:

Downcity is right next door to the Hotel. It is far from my favorite spot, but my coworkers and I end up their often enough because it is close and everyone can find something on the menu.

Cafe Chokad is a 5 minute walk. Food (upscale sandwiches and salads) is good if somewhat overpriced.

Ardeo does Mediterranean fare in the Union Station complex (5 minutes from the Hampton)

I believe that establishment was recently closed for some health/sanitation issues in the kitchen. Just something the OP may want to take into account.
