I would check out the Grub Street pictorial of the best sandwiches in Boston. I personally like Hi-Rise Bread Co. on Concord Av in Cambridge myself.

Have to second Cutty's. Went there with the wife on saturday and had an awesome roast beef sandwich and very good spuckie sandwich. I think the spuckie (Italian meats/cheese on ciabatta) would have been better not pressed. I also enjoyed the house made chips and limeade.

Don't know when it opened, but Cutty's in Brookline Village is a favorite of mine. They only do a few things, but they do them well. Homemade potato chips are great as well. 284 Washington Street.
