Persian desserts?
Looking for a place to get a few trays of desserts (pastries, baklava-like stuff) for a party this weekend. Anyone know of a great shop - Westwood would be great. Thanks!

Tochal Market, on Westwood Blvd. (just south of the 7-Eleven, between Rochester & Ohio)

Pink Orchid Bakery about 2 blocks south of Santa Monica. They have great baklava and their other pastries are very good and reasonably priced. The baklava is sweet but not overly gooey or sweet as other places. Their napoleans are also very good. I've tried several versions and enjoy the cream and custard fillings.

I enthusiastically second this. Pink Orchid is a full-fledged bakery that is MUCH better than Tochal Market or any of the other Persian stores on Westwood Blvd., and its staff is absolutely first-rate. I also recommend it for its unexpectedly fantastic sandwiches, especially the melt-in-your-mouth Kuku Saabzi (sp?) one.

I'm another fan of Pink Orchid. js76wisco and Arthur summed it up perfectly. The ladies behind the counter are really nice and helpful. Lots of choices for both Persian and Euro-style pastries and cookies. I haven't been in about a year, but up until then they did carry a pretty good selection of smaller party-sized pastries and cookies that are perfect for parties. I don't know how much the OP is planning to get, but if it's for a large party, it would be worth it to head over there, see what they have, and make an order. I would typically go early and the cases are pretty much full around opening.

Agree as well. Was going to post good quality and very reasonably priced.
Also, Mashti Malone's offers some desserts as well.

I know you already ordered. By the way, baklava is not really Persian although they make very similar confections, which are usually drier than baklava, in Iran. I would have ordered some Sohan Qom--Sohan is a very good confection, and Qom style is really famous. I hear there are a lot of Jewish Persian shops in Century City that have them and other delights. I have not tried them yet though. That's east of where you are looking but if anyone has some recommendations that would be appreciated.
Tell me how Pink Orchid turns out.
