The wife and I were in town for the Dave Mathews Band this weekend and had the pleasure of eating at TK before the show. After walking around Hartford waiting for the hotel room to be ready I was thinking that Hartford is a little sketchy. We walked by TK during the day and I didn't know what to make of it but we had already made reservations through Open Table so we were committed. I have posted some things about recent food trips to Boston and noted that we have better food in Mid Coast Maine than I can seem to get anywhere in Boston. I have been a bit down on city food lately but mainly because I am a chef and know the difficulties of running a good restaurant and getting the good press to go with it. The city seems to be a small fish big pond problem for a lot of great chefs. Onto the review....probably the hippest menu I have seen in a long time. Very current and technically awesome. We had the ssam appetizer which was executed perfectly and presented excellently. The fondue with big potato wedges that were cooked just right and made for a great yin to the ssam yang. We split a "Stone Pie" which didn't stand a chance as soon as it hit the table, great thin crust with perfectly seasoned toppings, it was devoured in seconds. Creme brulee for dessert was perfectly smooth only a little under bruleed, I like mine nice and dark. I don't know if the chef reads Chow but if he does I will say that I noticed him at the pass that night and he was intensely focused on the food that was leaving the kitchen and it showed at my table. Great food, service and atmosphere made for a truly memorable evening especially since the after dinner entertainment kept pace with the truly awesome meal that started the evening.
