Fine Dining in New Jersey

Hi, I am looking for a restaurant for our family to take my father in law to who is celebrating his 90th birthday... He is sharp as a tack, more like 60 then 90. Can anyone suggest nice restaurants to take him to...We thought of The Manor, however they are closed on Saturday afternoons.. We want to stay north of the jersey shore for traffic reasons..Anywhere from Newark north..Someone mentioned Highlawn, however they do not serve Saturday lunches either...Thank you for any help

  1. If you're willing to travel as far as Exit 117, Keyport, or Exit 114, Red Bank, the traffic will probably not be that bad. Plenty of good options in northern Monmouth.

I disagree, the Parkway can get jammed from before the Driscoll Bridge some Saturdays, and be a parking lot straight thru past Red Bank.

    2. Amanda's in Hoboken, NJ. It's a very special place and would be a wonderful restaurant to celebrate your FIL's very special birthday. I'm not sure how many people you are expecting, but I am sure if you spoke with either Eugene or Joyce, the owners, they would do right by you. They are very cordial and professional people.

We did a birthday party last year at the hyatt in jersey city - it has the best view of manhattan, was completely empty on saturday afternoon and we had the entire back dining area to ourselves overlooking the hudson with spectacular views of nyc , the food was good and diverse enough for our group of 20....burgers and such for the kids, chicken, fish and creative salads for the grownups, adult beverages and the staff was really nice

Yes, that view is wonderful. My niece was an assistant catering manager there until a few weeks ago (she was recently promoted and is now at another location). She always told us of how clients were always clamoring to have an event there because of the view.

I've never eaten at Liberty House, so can't say if it is fine dining or not, but we had our reception there and the view of the city is outstanding, so that could also be an option. Maybe someone can chime in on the dining experience at Liberty House.

I haven't eaten there in 2 years..but I thought the food was excellent and I would definitely consider it "fine dining". And you CAN'T beat the view!

I haven't been to Liberty House, but did dine at the sister restuarant Stone House in Warren, it was quite good. This could be a good choice.

My wife took me there for my bday, excellent stuff.

              2. Ninety Acres in Peapack. A must see(at least once) and great for special occasions.

                1. CulinAriane, Montclair.
                  Velo-- Nyack.

                  Both top drawer.

                  1. The Bernards Inn, Cafe Matisse, Ninety Acres, CulinAriane, and Velo (the last actually being in NY State) may all be good options for fine dining. However, apropos of the original request, which of them, if any, serves lunch on Saturday. Of course, it could be a moot point for the o.p.if the celebration has already taken place, but for future reference....
