Root Beer Float in Southern Hudson Valley?

  • 6

I'm looking for an old fashioned soda fountain somewhere between Peekskill and Poughkeepsie.
I promised someone a root beer float (or something similar) and now I've got to deliver.

Thanks for any suggestions.

  1. A little south of Peekskill, but Wobble Cafe in Ossining serves them

    1. I wonder if Abbots out in Shrub Oak/Mohegan would have them, I know they have floats...... http://www.abbottscustard.com/locatio... also maybe Purple Monkey in Croton on Hudson (a little further south), I would call them first to make sure.914-862-0622 I know they have something called a creamsicle float, which sounds really good to me.

      1. Wobble has them and has an old lunch counter, not the bestest destination for ice cream, though. Abbott's does them with their vanilla frozen custard and they're really yummy, but no soda fountain feeling to the place. TreatStation in Peekskill is probably what you want: I can't vouch for their ice cream or rootbeer floats, because I haven't had them, but the place is very retro, vintage candy shop and soda fountain feeling, and it's in your area!

        1. Sorry I missed the point of the question. I was focusing in on the Root Beer float. Kat is right, Abbot's is good but it's not an old fashioned soda fountain, neither is the purple monkey. There is a place up in Beacon, it's not your typical "old fashioned" place but it is cute and it serves Jane's ice cream, it's called the Beacon Creamery...... http://www.beaconcreamery.com/about.html

A root beer float made with Jane's would be divine! (Abita's would make it even better...)

          2. Thanks for all the great suggestions! (The Treat Station says they also make a mean Egg Cream.)
