Your top 5 Allston eats

Somehow I have made it 9 years in Boston without really exploring the Allston chow. I've been to Privus and Shabu Zen, but that's really it. Yoma is on my list, but I haven't made it there yet. I am ashamed and hungry.

I almost titled this "Your favorite Allston eats", but knowing that there are potentially a ton of places there I figured narrowing it to Top 5 would help keep things focused.

Looking forward to your responses!

    1. Rather than overlap with Allstonian's excellent list, I'll add a few more I like:

      S&I Thai
      Saray (Turkish)
      Punjab Palace
      Hanmaru (Korean: gamjatang a specialty)
Deep Ellum (for craft cocktails, not eats)

yes to all the above, especially Allstonian's list: I'd add Jo Jo Taipei

Yes to all of the above as well - I was trying to stick to 5, as requested, and picked my top super-favorites. It especially pained me to omit Jo Jo Taipei, and to refrain from singling out Ken's Ramen from the rest of the food court.

I added links for a bunch of places that have been mentioned so far.

What do you especially like / recommend at Saray? About time I gave it a try.
          Thanks

Oh, and my own list is a lot like everyone else's
          Shanghai Gate
Super 88 Food court - Banh mi et al
          S&I Thai
Soul Fire (not Blue Ribbon, but love the collards and some other good stuff)
          Garlic and Lemons

        3. Here are my top 4 restaurants:

          Jo Jo Taipei
          Blue Asia Cafe
          Carlo's Cucina Italiana
          Shanghai Gate

I'd also like to mention the Bubble Tea at Infusions, the pastries at Yi Soon Bakery, the cocktails (especially orange blossom gin fizz) at Deep Ellum, and the Bánh mì at Pho Viet in the Super 88 Food Court. And guiltily . . . the "Junkyard Dog" at Spikes.

          1. The top of my current rotation has some overlap with above, but a couple others:

            Myeongdong First Ave
            Korea Garden
            Ken's Ramen
Pho Viet (HK market food court)
JoJo Taipei (though sliding on the last few visits, possibly soon to be replaced by one of the other fine places mentioned here!)

              1. re: Beachowolfe

It seems like folks are focusing on the stretch of Brighton Ave between Packards Corner and Union Square. I drive past the Bus Stop all the time but have never been in: what's it like?

                1. re: Jenny Ondioline

It's a dive with good bar food, cheap beers, and Keno. Not exactly destination dining but a solid local, something that is lacking on the other side of LA except for maybe the Silhouette.

I was mostly joking because of the fact that everyone is so focused on the ethnic places.
