Tea (Typhoo, etc.) in Fairfield County, CT?

  • 5

Does anyone know which stores sell boxes of Typhoo loose tea (not tea bags) here in Fairfield County? Stop and Shop in Westport did years ago (in the Thai section!), but I haven't seen it in a long time.

Sometimes I buy loose tea at Balducci's, but there are bound to be more places that I don't know of.

Any recommendations appreciated.

Susan

  1. I'm not from FFD County, but am happy to throw some fantastic loose tea ideas your way if you're interested and like to go for a drive for quality product.

    Sundial Gardens, Higganum, CT:

Harney Teas, Millerton, NY (just over the CT border...a beautiful drive and I need to get there soon):

I've never heard of Typhoo. The two above are fantastic loose tea options. I am a HUGE fan of both (though Sundial is a hop, skip and a jump from me, it is worth the trip even if it's not close by). Harney is well over an hour (1.5?) from my house and I look forward to my trips to their tasting room. I want to try their pomegranate ooloong!

    1. Arogya in Westport has a fantastic array of loose teas. I've never heard of Typhoo, either, but if they don't have it, I'm sure they can get it for you. Arogya is located on Route 1, across from the post office. They're also have a stand at the Westport Farmer's Market on Thursdays.

      1. This place is in Newtown and I am sure I saw it in there a few months back.

        1. Drawing Room in Cos Cob/Greenwich is a tea merchant/tea room and they sell loose leaf teas that are decent. Tea room directory for CT lists another tea room/tea merchant in Norwalk called the Enchanted Teapot but I've never been so have no idea if their tea is decent or whether they are even still around.
