my graduation dinner

collegekitchen May 28, 2010 07:19 AM

I'm graduating from college tomorrow night (!), and am looking for a fun spot to go with my family afterwards. Ideally, it'd be somewhere cool but not overly trendy (i.e., my pragmatic brother hates the minimalist plating and general atmosphere at places like One Midtown Kitchen) and not too terribly pricey (was thinking about Miller Union, but it's a little too much for me).I'd like it to be in-town, but no specific neighborhood in mind. And I'd really like to go somewhere I've never been before.

So far, I'm thinking along the lines of Holeman & Finch, Abattoir, Rathbun's (we'd stick to the small plates), et al. I know this is vague, but I'd love some suggestions, and more so, I'd love to hear your thoughts on any of the above.

thanks chowhounds!

I think Floataway would be perfect. Or something totally different, what about Alfredo's on Cheshire Bridge, it's fun, really.

I'd add Bocado and Leon's to the list for consideration. Don't know that I'd go to Alfredo's (no offense to Katj). If leaning Italian, Sotto Sotto or Fritti would be my first picks.

Floataway is way too expensive for this person. Ditto for Sotto Sotto. Alfredo's is a good choice for the price point. i'd also recommend Mali's thai in Va Highlands.

Well, hopefully he didn't fall prey to the siren's song of our bad advice...two months ago.

The thing I've always liked about Sotto Sotto is that you can eat very reasonably there if you choose.
