Arkansas - Driving from Austin, TX to Lexington, KY
I've done my due diligence and read through the Arkansas topics. I have found four restaurants in Little Rock that could work for us if we will be eating there.
I would like to know if you have any recs for the road between Texarkana and Memphis... short detours are fine. We probably would not stop for Asian or Tex-Mex but, since BBQ is different all over, we could do that. Fine dining or down home is good, too.
Just east of Little Rock.........
Nick's Bar B Que @ Hwy. 13 N., Carlisle, AR. 870 - 552 - 3887. I40/EXIT183. ***
Good one you should not miss in DeVall's Bluff just east of Little Rock couple miles off I 40............
Craig's BBQ @ Rt. 70, Devalls Bluff, AR. 501 - 998 - 2616. I40/EXIT202.
Also on the way.........
Gene's Barbecue and Family Restaurant @ 1107 N. Hwy. 17, Brinkley, AR. 870 - 734 - 9965. * I40/EXIT216.
You ought to catch this one or Craigs one or the other.
The Ole Sawmill Cafe @ 2299 N. Washington St., Forrest City, AR 870 - 630 - 2299. * I40/EXIT241AB. B/L/D. ***

Thank you for your replies!!!
We ended up checking out Bryce's in Texarkana. The food was pretty good. I had the baked tilapia with cucumber salad. The baked tilapia had a good taste but was soggy from sitting in the steam tray. I'm not used to cucumber salad being sweet but figured that it was the regional preference... not mine. Hubs had the chicken spaghetti which he really enjoyed. I believe his comment was that it was a good "comfort food". For us, what made this a destination was the ambiance. It felt like we had stepped back in time. Once is probably enough, though I would have no strong objection if a companion wanted to go.
On the return trip, we took a detour and went to Hot Springs. It was a beautiful area and a very busy nightlife, maybe because there was a music festival going on. We had dinner at the Brick House. It was a popular place on Friday night. I had a salad with good blue cheese dressing and a perfectly cooked and seasoned medium rare filet. Mushrooms were good but overly salty. Hubby had a salad with raspberry vinaigrette which was very sweet and the consistency of syrup (ugh). I believe he had the Brick House Chicken Sandwich which he enjoyed a lot. We would definitely go again.
