Lunch not far from JFK airport

Looking to have lunch with friends on a Saturday afternoon, not too far from JFK, as we'll have about four hours before we need to check in for our flight to Europe. Some of the group will eat vegetarian or fish. Any recommendations?

  1. There's a few places on Cross Bay Blvd in Howard Beach, such as a steak house, a couple of clam houses and pizzerias. I've been to Captain Mike's Crab House, they were pretty good. Maybe someone knows of a decent place in the terminals?Especially since they've renovated most of the spaces.

Can you tell me more about Captain Mike's? They serve steamed blue crabs? Casual? Inexpensive?

After looking up their number online, it looks like they changed their name to Captain Luna's . The address is still 158-35 Crossbay Blvd by the fire house. I'm not sure if it still holds, but I was paying around a $1 a crab and it was very casual. Their phone number is 718 659-0935.

There's also a couple of clam houses on Crossbay, Vincent's and Lenny's. Also casual, but moderately priced. I hope this helps. If you go to any of these places please give a review.

How would we get to New Park, I assume it's the name of the restaurant, from JFK airport? Also, someone mentioned taking a train to Long Island from JFK to have lunch. Is it worth the trip and any lunch recommendations there?

      2. Saffron, on Cross Bay. I go there for lunch one a month. It is great stuff. If you want "lunch food" order the sliders from the bar menu. If you want a big meal, you can have the three course dinner menu for $25 during lunch (you have to ask for it specifically). For the 1st course, I recommend the Spanish meatballs or the mussels. For the second course I recommend the paella or the salmon. If you choose the salmon, ask for the risotto as your side. If they have the flan for desert (not always available), I would recommend that.
