If you want Indian, Sapphire, or maybe Mughlai (this may be a bit uptown, but they started offering pre-theater prix fixe, which is decent).
Telepan's food is not bad, but I was very very disappointed with the service last time I went (a couple of weeks back).
Maybe Shun Lee Palace, or its more reasonable "cafe" next door?-----

Telepan
PicholineI would keep throwing out names but not sure if I'm even close to what you are looking for. The 3 I mentioned are all good for different reasons.

re: Spiritchaser
I love both Telepan and Picholine, but depending on what's going on a Lincoln Center, these two restaurants may overshadow the performance. Other lower key restaurants could be Cafe Luxembourg and (if not too far uptown) Tenzan.

Ed's Chowder House. Fresh seafood, amazing New England Clam chowder, a $35 prix fixe dinner menu and great service. Before you order they ask if you have a show to get to. Try the scallop ravioli!
