Soft Shells in Northern B'more

placidothecat May 26, 2010 06:22 AM

It has been suggested that I pick up some soft shell crabs for a small family get together this weekend, and although I've lived here my whole life, I'm clueless about soft shells. How do I tell a good one from a not so good one? How is the batter supposed to taste, what texture?

And most important, any recommendations on where to get them north of B'more: Towson, Lutherville, Cockeysville, etc. area.

Thanks!

I know this isn't north of Baltimore, but Frank's Seafood in Jessup is advertising they have soft shells now. No help for your other questions though, I'm not a fan.

Try Gibby's in Timonium. By the Fairgrounds. I'd call first, but I'm pretty confident.
