Sad news for barbecue fans. Big Daddy's barbecue in Warrior (north Jefferson County) caught fire and mostly burned down, forcing it to temporarily close. It's a well-regarded joint, winning first place in a Birmingham News poll. Here's an online posting about it:

That's too bad. We ate there once after the results of the Bham News contest came out. Very nice people - I hope they are able to rebuild soon.

They're going to try to get by with some catering, too. I'll update when more information comes out.
