Parents 30th Anniversary Dinner
Trying to surprise my parents by making a reservation for their anniversary dinner on Tues. June 8th. I think EMP would have been perfect, but they only have 9:30 or later left and my parents can't hang like that anymore. I have a res at Sho Shaun Hergatt and one at the Modern Dining Room although I think they'd prefer to be downtown. I want something special, probably not too loud although they still enjoyed Yerba Buena which is not exactly quiet. Don't know exactly how much they want to spend but am thinking I'll give them a couple of reservations to choose from. They're open to every kind of food. Any suggestions or comments on the reservations of made? Thanks!

If your parents would prefer downtown, I highly recommend Bouley for such a special occasion. I had a wonderful Mother's Day celebration, and the food, decor and service were the best!
We haven't been to SHO Shaun Hergatt since last year, but we loved our dinner there. And reports from Hounds who have been there recently indicate that the cuisine is better than ever.

We had a stellar dinner in The Modern Dining Room two weeks ago.

You might also want to consider Veritas. Chef Grégory Pugin's cuisine is brilliant.

P.S. I'm surprised that your parents can't manage a 9:30 reservation. You make them sound ancient. We've been married almost 42 years, and we often dine at that hour.
Not ancient at all, very hip and cool if I do say so myself, but not New Yorkers and thus the whole eating past 7:30 or 8 thing is something they just can't get used to! Thanks for the suggestions, will definitely check out Veritas. I was considering Bouley also, as I ate there a few years ago and really enjoyed it, so will see if they have anything available too. Thanks so much!

SHO is a good choice. While I love looking at the sculpture garden, I find The Modern to be extremely loud.
Additional options to consider are Jean-Georges (always a winner in my book) or maybe Corton, if you're looking for something a little more unusual.

Another downtown option is Scalini Fedeli. Not too loud, food is great, and the service is flawless.

My parents loved Dovetail when I took them there for dinner. It's been a year and a half and they still talk about it :)
