I'm looking to buy a bunch of live dungeness crabs this weekend for a crab boil but I think crab is out of season. Does anyone have suggestions for where to buy live crabs right now? And is it more expensive because it's not crab season?

Thank u!

Amy

Check Ranch 99s and Chinese markets

As to price, of course they are less expensive when they are more plentiful but the price goes up and down as you can see by this thread. Interestingly the last post is by kc72 with a price of $6.99 a pound at Ranch 99. That is the price I saw this weekend. The tanks were not chuck-full but they seemed fairly lively.

They were $7.99/lb in the Richmond, for tiny lackluster crabs. Prices and availability don't seem very good this year at all.

Ran across this article, which discusses a possible reason why duration of dungeness availability seems to grow shorter with each passing year.
