That's the way is is supposed to work. However sometimes when you put in something like the restaurant is on El Camino Real you get surprising entries.

Guaymas in Tiburon has great views of sf but is a bit of a drive from San Rafael. NewZ in Greenbrae has a nice patio- great food and wine list. Picco has no outdoor seating but Yankee Pier has a large covered patio, and Ward Street cafe has a small patio in back. Left Bank has great outddoor seating but food is

Il Davide in San Rafael has excellent food, and on warm days a sidewalk cafe. The pasta lunch special is the best food buy in Northern Cal.

No out door seating at the Buckeye btw. Fish in Sausalito is on the water, lots of picnic style outdoor seating, great food, no cc's and pricey (but tax is included and the tip jar is optional) and the food is really great. Poggio, on Sausalito's main drag has good out door seating, really good Italian food. Le Garage also in Sausalito, lots of outdoor seating with reasonably priced, good casual French food. Finally, Sushi Ran also in Sausalito has some of the best sushi and Japanese food in the Bay area, but no outdoor seating. Welcome to Marin.

For breakfast and lunch, the Half Day Cafe in Greenbrae, right across College Avenue from the College of Marin, isa very relaxed and attractive with a nice outdoor seating area. It's probably Marin's longtime leading place for folks to meet up with friends for a leisurely meal.

Has anyone been to Hanna's Italian Mediterranean Restaurant on the west end of 4th Street in San Rafael? It has lots of outdoor seating and looks inviting -- no idea if the food's good.

What time? For brunch you might consider Hidden City Cafe in Point Richmond on the other end of the bridge.

For maximum ease for your out-of-Marin friends, there are a couple of restaurants in Larkspur Landing --
                        Sushi Ko (small outdoor area)
                        E&O (I've never been)
Marin Brewing Co (super casual, lots of outdoor seating)
