east village steak recommendations?

  • 8

Hi there,
I have a sudden urge for steak tonight in the east village. Not necessarily looking for a steak house, just somewhere in the neighborhood that has a really nice hunk of beef on the menu. Any one have any suggestions? Thinking back forty for the garden, but the workday has sapped any other ideas out of my head...

  1. Man not too many great steaks in the hood, so we usually head elsewhere for high end meat. That said, we like to go to Leon on 12th St for steak and red wine sometimes. Nothing special, but its a nice meal and a good time.

    1. Johns of 12th Street has been tweeting about having a Pat LaFrieda shell steak that sounds pretty good.

      1. Buenos Aires on 5th or 6th between A and B fits the bill. Not the best steak you'll ever find but it satisfies a craving, esp the skirt steak and short ribs

2nd buenos aires. to me the skirt & short ribs are v good

        2. Obsessed with the carne asada at Esperanto - best beef I've had at a non-steakhouse in the city.

          1. Had a fantastic steak and overall meal at Azul Bistro. May be a little south for you but worth a try.

            1. Strip House is the only steak-focused place I can think of in the area, around 12th and University. I've only been once, but I liked it.

                Thanks all for these,
we did end up doing Back forty which had a really nice steak on as a special. I now have a great list to work through; already been to Leon (same sentiment as you filmbomb), and loved the food at Azul. Next time I think I'll try Esperanto or Buenos Aires :)
