BBQ food in Ffld Cty for birthday party (Pulled Pork, etc)
I am hosting a birthday party and was just going to order from the local pizza place until someone suggested BBQ foods. Can you recommend somewhere in Fairfield County for pulled pork, fried chicken, corn bread, etc. I'd need enough to feed 50 people, mostly adults.

I'll second Jeff's and also add Ash Creek Saloon.

The Cookhouse either in Darien or New Milford has arguably the best BBQ around. Early in the month you can also get a $25 coupon for $10 - $6 from Restaurant.com.

The Cookhouse in Darien, CT closed in JAN 2009.
The original Cookhouse, in New Milford, CT, is still in business.

I've catered from Wilson's in Fairfield on multiple occasions. Some on this board don't like it, some love it. I'm of the mindset that there are great things on the menu and if you choose wisely it is very good.
When we cater we always get pulled meats. Love their pulled pork. And their pulled chicken is amazing. They do traditinoal corn bread and I love their black eyed pea salad and cole slaw.
Their mac and cheese is good for a side, but my wife makes a better one and for much less cost - - - so we'll cater the pulled meats and some sides from Wilson's and then make our own mac and cheese and potato salad (or baked beans) to go with it. We also buy our own rolls for those who want pulled meat sandwiches.
Note on their food: it's all severd SOS (sauce on the side). Some people don't like this - - they like the goopey, sugary sauce cooked right in. I don't like that, which is why I like Wilson's. So if you order, get their different sauces too and let your guests dip them and/or pour them on.
Note on their brisket and ribs: they are of the heavily smoked, dry style (smoke rings, no sauce served on them.) When it comes to ribs, I like mine a little wetter so I prefer my own to Wilsons. For the brisket it can seem a little dry if you don't add sauce. It's not on the menu, but you can ask him to make you a tray of pulled brisket too (and he'll toss in the appropriate sauce with it). When he serves it this way (as he sometimes does as a special) it is very, very good.
Here is their site. Good luck and report back:

I would throw Ash Creek Saloon (either locale) and Cookhouse into the ring. Have yet to try Wilson's. They have quirky hours/days of operation - but will HAVE to make it work sometime. ESPECIALLY after DDD. BTW - Valencia in Norwalk has some pretty bangin' pernil pork. Not traditional BBQ - but is great in an arepa!

the only decent ribs I have had in FFLD County over the past 5 years were the dry-rubbed at Bobby Q's in Westport. I trust that their pulled pork is good as well. Both Ash Creek and Jeffs taste like they came out of a microwave.
