Late night downtown options?

  • 9

I'll be in downtown SF on a weeknight soon, and am wondering what the dining options are at about 11 PM or so, when I get done working? I know I've seen threads before on this, but nothing seems to come up in search. I don't need anything fancy, but hopefully there are choices other than Lori's, Pinecrest, and the Grubstake. Nothing against those places, but I'm hoping for something different. I will actually be on Nob Hill (but without a car), so anything within a short cab ride will be OK. TIA.

  1. Hey Steve, I loathe and despise the CH search "function" too :-). I did manage to come up with a list by typing in "late night" (without the quotes) and then clicking on the Relevance button.

Thank you grayelf, that's very helpful. Among other things, that search link showed Robert's handy list. Too bad Yuet Lee is closed that night, as it sounded perfect. I'll have to review the other options........

    2. Which day of the week?

Lers Ros is open until midnight every day.

It will be a Tuesday night. Isn't Lers Ros in a part of the Tenderloin that's a bit dodgy that late at night? Call me chicken.......

I've ordered delivery from Lers Ros several times. Quick and reliable.

Depending on how one defines the Tenderloin (I consider the Tender Nob to be a different area), there are no parts of it that aren't dodgy that late at night, just certain parts that are dodgier than others. I would say that area is one of the less dodgier parts due to all of the commercial activity

Yeah, there are a bunch of restaurants, clubs, and bars open late right around there and lots of people on the street going to, from, and among them. Thai House Express is two blocks away and also open till midnight seven days.

To add an out-of-towners viewpoint, the area that Lers Ros is in is, shall we say, a touch gritty but not necessarily scary. It's nothing compared to downtown LA at night, for example.

My trip there a couple of weeks ago saw us leave the restaurant towards closing time and I wasn't concerned for my safety walking back to the car. The street that Lers Ros is on is fairly well lit (especially the 1/4-mile stretch with the neon signage from the storefronts) and busy so you'll encounter the odd rambling drunk evangelist, but not much else.

At any rate, the food at Lers Ros is very tasty and worth the trip if you just take your standard personal safety precautions like avoid venturing down dimly-lit alleyways.

Agree the neighborhood is not that bad. The best personal safety precaution anytime, anywhere, is to walk briskly and look like you're alert and know what you're doing.
