oysters, champagne and sticky toffee pudding...starfish was a GREAT choice!
Thanks to those of you who suggested Starfish for my recent anniversary dinner...it worked on many levels...first off, I loved the space. It just felt 'right" - high ceilings, great lighting...very chill. We were seated at a large booth, which, while not particularly romantic, was really roomy and gave us a good view of the action on the floor. Upon being seated, I notice the bartender pouring what appeared to be some kind of pink champagne..which I immediately coveted. Was just about to request one for myself when our waiter promptly presented the drinks to us...apparently in honour of our anniversary. Given that I am very easy to please, after that, they could do no wrong. We opted to go with a variety of smaller dishes..oysters, sardines (huge portion!), softshell crab (my first..*blush*), mussels and frites...accompanied by some of the most astoundingly correct Guiness pours I have ever had (and a lovely sauvignon blanc). We had heard whisperings about the sticky toffee pudding, so of course, we had to have it. We also decided to include the lemongrass creme brulee, just for the heck of it. The brulee, by itself would have been a star, but next to the sticky toffee pudding, well, let's just say it was like the ugly sister. I can't remember the last time I ate a dessert that made my eyes roll back in my head...need I say more. so, great meal, lovely room, attentive service..looking forward to a return visit. Hubby is out of town next month and I intend to go, sit at the bar, drink dirty martinis and scarf back a dozen oysters..cause it's just that kind of place!
