Who's been to Bogue's lately?

Are the sweet rolls still the standard bearer for Birmingham's sweet breakfast lovers?

Enjoy it while you can, it looks as though the bulldozers are coming

Well, he's been through this before. He has Southside Cafe and lost that to the bulldozer (and now there's an empty lot where Southside Cafe was). He bought Bogue's, and he has to feel like he's seen this before.

I still like the food, but the rolls haven't been my favorite ever. Much prefer the French toast.

Of course, I'd give my right arm for a good orange roll from The Club.

My husband just told me that Bogue's owes $130,000 in taxes to the city of Birmingham. He probably doesn't have much fight in him over keeping it open.

@JuliaMac: I've seen in our member newsletters before that if you call The Club, you can arrange to order a dozen (or however many) for carry-out! I've never done it but sure sounds like a good idea...I love them too.

If you ever go to Cullman, give them a try at the All Steak. They're different and delicious there also.

You can also buy orange rolls from Savage's in Homewood. Not my favorite place to give my business to, but every now and then I need something that only they have.

My father-in-law had breakfast there on Friday, as he does almost every week; he said that they seem pretty blase about the whole affair. I think my husband said that the owner of Bogue's had a letter published in the Bham News last week saying that the building he's in is old and would more or less be no great loss, that they will show up somewhere else if the drugstore goes in. I agree that his building has no particular architectural interest but the old fire house certainly does. The best thing about Bogue's in my book, since the long-time owner sold it...what, about eight or so years ago?...is the neon sign out front. I'm just not a fan of the food.

My father-in-law is still in love with those sweet rolls, though.

Bogue's is ok, nothing great, but serves its purpose. I just don't think it's a whole lot better than the meat and 3 options at the Pig. The guy serving up the meat and 3 is surly as can be.

Oh, I do hate to be the bearer of bad news, but since I live near Bogue's I have heard that it is about to be raized and a Walgreen's installed (of course across the street from a CVS). So you better go get those sweet rolls soon, try the weekend, this seems to be the only time they have them these days.

I haven't been to the Bogue's 280 location, wonder if they have the sweetrolls there?
